Accessibility

We want this store to work for everyone who arrives at it, on whatever they arrived with. This page says what we build to, what is actually in place, where we fall short, and how to tell us when something blocks you.

What we build to

We design and test against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, Level AA. That is a target we hold ourselves to. It is not a certificate anyone has handed us, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

What is in place

  • A skip link that jumps straight to the main content, so a keyboard user is not tabbing through the whole navigation on every page.
  • Visible focus outlines on every link, button, field and control, drawn to stay legible against both the light and the dark theme.
  • Full keyboard operation of the navigation, the search overlay, the bag and the collection filters. Nothing here needs a mouse.
  • Motion that is off unless your system says you have no preference against it. Turn reduced motion on and the site holds still.
  • A light theme, a dark theme, and a system setting that follows whatever your device is already doing.
  • Text alternatives on imagery that carries meaning. Images that only repeat a name printed next to them are marked decorative, so a screen reader does not read the same product name twice.
  • Headings in a real order, chosen for structure rather than for how big they look.
  • A print stylesheet, so a printed page comes out as the content instead of the furniture around it.

Where we are not there yet

Checkout, customer accounts and payment are run by Shopify. Their accessibility is Shopify's to answer for, not ours, and we cannot change how those screens behave. Third-party content we add later, including embedded video, may not meet the same bar on the day it lands. When we find a gap we will name it here rather than quietly leave it.

Tell us what broke

If any part of this site stopped you doing something, email info@dawanghihi.com. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you were using. That last part is the one that helps most. We will reply, and we will tell you what we are doing about it.
